About The Lucky Pumpkin
Hello. Welcome to The Lucky Pumpkin! My name is Mary, and I am a forty-year-old wife and mother of two wonderful girls. This blog is about my transition from working as a full-time Music Teacher for 15 years, to stay-at-home mom. I discuss the challenges of being a mother to an extremely sensitive four-year-old, Anna, and a very happy, smiley, two-year-old, Emily, who has Down syndrome.
You might be curious about the title of the blog. My daughter Anna was telling me that Emily was not called Emily. She said, “She’s not Emily, Mama.” “She’s not?” I said, “Who is she, then?” She said, “She’s a Lucky Pumpkin!” This was so well-received by us that she kept saying it for weeks. We really thought that was a perfect name for Emily, and for all of us. We are all really lucky and blessed to have each other. The funny thing is, no one ever called either of the girls a pumpkin as a nickname, a pet name, or anything. So we really don’t know where she came up with the idea!
Please feel free to email me or leave a comment if you would like to talk about anything I write about, but especially if you are a parent of a child with Down syndrome. It can be a lonely road if we don’t network and help each other out.
